Today when the broadband connections in India are growing at a snails pace the 3g connections in India have increased at a Supersonic speed. There has been a lot of hype around the 3g services that were launched in India in 2009. And after two years it can be said that the 3g technology has not delivered what it promised. 3g subscribers have complained of fluctuating speeds, call drops , and various other problems with their 3g networks. The telecom operators will have to look in the matter if they wishes to keep the existing 3g customers.3g was launched in India in 2009 by MTNL under its service called Jadoo. By the end of 2010 other various private operators entered the 3g arena after winning spectrum in the 3g auction. The mobile operators are charging heavily for providing 3g services. But in spite of all these factors the number of 3g subscribers added in between March 2010 and March 2011 has been an amazing 12.2 million. This is a whooping 400% increase since the last year.
What is more surprising is that not all the telecom opertaors have launched their 3g services across India for example Tata Docomo does not provide 3g services in Mumbai. Indeed, growth has accelerated as 3G coverage and competition has increased, with subscribers increasing by an astonishing 73% in the first quarter of 2011. Fixed broadband services in India have grown at a steady, but unspectacular, pace since their introduction in 2003. Providers had signed up 11.5 million subscribers at the end of the first quarter of 2011, up 31% from a year earlier. Nevertheless, Indian broadband penetration stands at only 5% of households. In contrast, 34% of Chinese households have broadband access.
