If sources are to be believed then India will have access to 4g network by Next year. Telecom companies are planning to get 4g network in India by 2012. If this happens then it will only boost India’s network connectivity. But the question is will 4g services be available this early in India. Getting 3g in India took a good nine to ten years. Even after 3g was launched in India by BSNL and MTNL in 2009 it took another year for private players to launch their respective 3g services.
It is speculated that the 4g networks will give speed as high as 100 mbps. Current 3g gives speed upto 2 mbps. BUt the current 3g connection is not very good as per subscriber feedback.Subscribers have complained of fluctuating networking and call drops. 3g networks have not yet been introduced in all the circles around India. Infact even Mumbai is yet to get 3g services from all Telecom operators.
Although 3G services have only recently been launched across the country, the network upgrade is likely to produce broadband capacity of up to 100MB rather than 2MB provided by 3G. This will significantly improve the delivery of video based services such as mobile TV and YouTube.
The 4G equipment and technology is on trial as service providers hold BWA [broadband wireless access] licenses. By 2015 India’s BWA operators must cover at least 50% of the rural area within their area circle or risk losing their license. The government plans to boast broadband connections in India to 150 million, up from the current 30 million. The government has a target to lay 500,000km of fibre optic cable to aid the connection of 250,000 panchayats, or self-governing village assemblies, across India.
Now it is to be seen how these 4g services will work in India if they are launched next year. One more interesting thing to look into will be the pricing of the 4g plans. telecom operators have not been able to get many subscribers to go for 3g networks because they are costly.
