Apple and Samsung ended Nokias 15 year long reign as the best mobile phone manufacturer in India. Nokia has been Indias best mobile phone manufacturer since 1996 when it had entered the market with its communicator series. But very strong competition from Apple and Samsung has led to Nokia slipping directly to the third position from numero uno.
Apple sold a whooping 20.4 million iphones in the second quarter of 2011 i.e it sole 20.4 million iphones in just 3 months. Apple i phone4 was launched a year back and still it managed to sell in such high numbers. Whereas Samsung managed to sell 19 million models to take the second position. And nokia sold 16 million models to get the third position.Strategy Analytics estimated smartphone market volume grew 76 percent from a year ago in the second quarter. Sales of simpler so-called feature phones fell 4 percent from a year ago due to conservative spending and continued shift to smartphones, most visible in developed markets, such as the United States, Japan and Western Europe
Some analysts already forecast for Samsung to become the world’s largest cellphone vendor next year.Nokia’s share of the global handset market, which includes smartphones and more basic models, fell to 24.5% last quarter from 34.7% a year earlier, Strategy Analytics said. This was the lowest level for the Finnish company since 1999, according to the researcher.
