Indian mobile internet subscriber base is expected to reach 46 million by this September. This has been indicated in a report by Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) and market research leader IMRB. The report also says that the internet mobile user subscriber base has been increasing with a growth rate of about 15 %. The report by IAMAI claims that the mobile internet users in urban India belong to the two top SEC’s i.e. Sec A and Sec B. Also the top eight metro cities in India i.e. Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, NCR, Bangalore, Chennai , Ahmedabad and Pune contribute to about 55 % of the mobile internet users.
The currently active mobile internet users have 63 % of them from these top 8 metro cities the report said. India has been witnessing healthy mobile internet growth. The reason behind this is that mobile internet is convenient to use as compared to broadband internet on the mobile. One more reason behind this growth has been that there have been good affordable data plans offered by the mobile service providers. the service providers in some circles even have one day data plans.
Also the sites these days have been made in such a way that they can be viewed by internet users on mobile internet. These mobile sites are similar to the broadband internet sites but might be just a little small in size. Also social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter have launched their mobile applications. Through these mobile applications mobile internet users can update their status on Facebook or Tweet on Twitter.
With the advent of 3g services in India this number has just gone higher. 3g services promise faster internet as compared to 2g services which is comparatively slower internet. If the mobile service providers improve their network than this number of mobile internet user may go higher than the present number.
